Auto-Reply to 'How Much?' Comments on Instagram Product Posts
How to automatically answer price and availability questions on your product posts with a DM, so 'how much?' and 'is this in stock?' comments get an instant reply instead of dying overnight.
Every product post gets them: "how much?", "is this available?", "do you ship to my city?", "what sizes?" These are buying-intent questions, the closest thing to a raised hand you get on Instagram. And most of them go unanswered for hours, by which point the buyer has moved on. This is about answering them automatically, the moment they're asked.
We build heyy.to to do exactly this, so we'll show you the real mechanic and be straight about what it can and can't do.
Why "how much?" comments are worth catching
A price question is not idle curiosity. Someone who asks "how much?" has already decided they might buy; they're just missing one piece of information. That makes them the hottest lead on the whole post, hotter than a like, hotter than a follow, hotter than a save.
But that intent has a short shelf life. Reply in ten seconds and you often close the sale. Reply the next morning and the moment is gone. The math is brutal: the slower you answer, the fewer you convert. Automation makes the answer instant, so you stop losing sales to your own response time.
How the auto-reply actually works
There are two things people mean by "auto-reply," and it's worth separating them:
- A public reply in the comments. The tool replies once, publicly, to the comment ("Sent you the details in DMs!"). This is optional and mostly for social proof, so others see the post is active.
- A private DM. The real payload. The tool sends a DM with the price, the link, and anything else the buyer needs.
The good setup uses both: a single public reply for visibility, and the DM for the actual answer. This is comment-to-DM automation applied to product questions.
The flow:
- You set up an automation on the product post.
- Someone comments a price or availability question.
- The tool detects the keyword (PRICE, HOW MUCH, or any comment on that post) and instantly sends a DM with the answer.
- Optionally, it posts one public reply too.
Note: Instagram's own native tools do away messages and saved replies, but they cannot trigger a DM from a comment keyword. There's no built-in "reply to this comment with a DM." That's the gap a dedicated tool fills. See does Instagram have auto-reply for what's native versus what needs a tool.
Matching the question
Buyers phrase price questions a dozen ways. You have two options:
- Keyword match. Fire on specific words: "price", "how much", "cost", plus your language variants ("kitna", "price kya hai"). Precise, keeps DMs relevant.
- Any-comment match. Fire on any comment on that post. Best for a product post where nearly every comment is a buying question, so you catch them all regardless of wording.
For a pure product post, any-comment is often the right call, almost every comment deserves the price and link anyway. For a mixed post, keyword matching keeps you from DMing people who just said "gorgeous!"
heyy.to matches keywords in Hindi and Marathi as well as English, so a comment in Hinglish triggers the reply the same as one in English. Tools built only for English miss a big chunk of Indian buyers' comments.
What a good product-question DM says
Answer the question, remove the friction, give the link:
"It's ₹899, and yes it's in stock. Here's the link to grab it: [url]. Ships in 2 to 3 days across India. Let me know if you want a different size."
Notice it answers price and the likely follow-up (availability, shipping) in one message, so the buyer doesn't have to ask again. Fewer round trips, faster sale.
For availability specifically, you can set up a RESTOCK keyword on sold-out items that captures an email and notifies the buyer when it's back, turning a "sorry, out of stock" dead end into a saved lead.
The link goes to your checkout, not ours
heyy.to doesn't host a storefront or handle payments, deliberately. The DM sends a link out to your own store or checkout, and the buyer pays you directly. You keep the full sale minus your own gateway fee, no commission to us. That's the commission-free stance we take across the product, covered in the link-in-bio guide.
Keep it reactive
This works because it only replies to people who commented. It's reactive and compliant. It is not, and must not be, a way to DM people who didn't ask. No cold DMs, no auto-DMing new followers. That's against Meta's rules and gets accounts restricted, which is why we don't build it. See why we don't auto-DM new followers.
FAQ
Can I auto-reply to price questions on Instagram? Yes, with a comment-to-DM tool. When someone comments a price or availability question, it sends a DM with the answer instantly, and optionally posts one public reply too.
Does Instagram do this natively? No. Instagram has away messages and saved replies, but nothing that triggers a DM from a comment keyword. You need a dedicated tool.
Should I match keywords or reply to any comment? For a pure product post where almost every comment is a buying question, any-comment works well. For mixed posts, keyword match (price, how much, cost) keeps replies relevant.
Can it answer availability, not just price? Yes. Write the DM to cover price, stock, and shipping in one message. For sold-out items, a RESTOCK keyword can capture an email and notify buyers when it's back.
Is auto-replying to comments safe? Yes, on an official-API tool that paces sends. It's reactive, so it's compliant. Avoid tools that also do cold DMs or ask for your password.
Does it work for comments in Hindi? With heyy.to, yes. Keyword matching covers Hindi and Marathi, not just English.
Stop losing sales to your own reply time. If you want "how much?" answered in seconds, on the official API, with the link going to your own checkout, that's what heyy.to does. Set it up, or read the full e-commerce DM automation guide.
